Pay for the magazine, not for the ads

Readers fund every page of the Review. Start free with the Saturday letter, or become a member and read everything.

Subscriptions pay for four things: writers, editors, the printer and the post. There are no ads, no sponsored pieces and no affiliate links, which is why we can publish a 4,000-word essay about drafts. In 2025, 58 cents of every subscription dollar went to contributors and editors. The printer took 21, the post 12, and the rest kept the lights on.

A year of the Review arrives with a card from you, on the date you choose.

Gifts never renew on their own. We email the recipient a month before the year ends.

III.Questions about paying

Billing, cancelling, refunds and the print edition.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Cancel from your account page in two clicks. You keep access to the end of the month or year you paid for, and we don't charge you again.

Do you refund a yearly plan?

Yes, in full within 30 days of paying, and for the unused months after that if your circumstances change. Write to us; a person answers within two working days.

When does the print issue arrive?

About three weeks after it's online: late January, April, July and October in the US, a week or two later elsewhere. If you join between issues, we mail the current one straight away.

Is there a student or hardship rate?

Yes. Tell us what you can pay and we'll set it up, no proof needed. About one member in twelve pays this way.

Do you sell or share my email?

No. We use it to send what you asked for and receipts. We don't use tracking pixels in the letter.

Another question? Write to the editors.
